The University of Texas at Arlington School of Nursing has streamlined its online RN to
BSN Program to include all the courses you need to graduate with your BSN, including General Courses, formerly
known as prerequisite courses.
Below is a course map that shows the RN to BSN Nursing Courses you will need to take (blue dots) as
well as the General Courses* you are required to complete (orange boxes). Every student will begin
the nursing program with Professional Nursing A and B1, assuming they have completed Composition I and II.
Students must complete all General Courses before entering the last course of the nursing program,
which is the Capstone Course. A School of Nursing advisor will provide a course map for you taking
into account your specific requirements and the course offering schedule once you have applied,
submitted your official transcripts, and been accepted by UT Arlington School of Nursing.

1 Professional Nursing is a 6 credit hour course taught in two separate 5 week
sections: Part A and Part B. A grade for Professional Nursing is awarded only after students
complete both sections. In regards to tuition payment, students pay $618.75 prior to
beginning Part A of the course and there is no additional payment required for Part B.
2 Technical Writing is preferred. Equivalents include Literature, Speech, or Philosophy, as long
as the courses are Sophomore level or higher and have a writing component.
3 The Upper Division Elective Course is in addition to the 3 credit hour upper division Nursing
elective requirement included in the 35 credit RN to BSN Nursing Course listing. This General 3
credit requirement can be met by taking any upper division elective course (including a second
nursing elective), by providing documentation of being certified through a nationally recognized
nursing certification examination (Certification Submission Process (.pdf)),
or by completing a work-based project in the Nursing Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program.
4 The Upper Division Nursing Elective Course, if needed, is provided at no additional cost and
can also be met through documentation of being certified through a nationally recognized nursing
certification examination or completing a work-based project in Nursing Cooperative Education (Co-op)
Program (Certification Submission Process (.pdf)).
